So we've been pretty much neglecting this baby. Not because we want to, but because we're too fucking busy as of late. What kind of lame excuse is that? Mothers don't abandon their babies regardless of how busy they are. Fuck, we're bad parents. Anyways, to make up for the past 5 days of neglect, I will over stuff this post with songs that I'm currently "jamming" to.
Lightning Dust::Antonio Jane; History; I Knew -- I usually don't like voices that are so shaky, but damn this is the sound of vulnerability to the max. I've been a fan of 'I Knew' for a while now, but I'm currently obsessing over 'Antonio Jane. This is my calming music for when I feel like loving something.
Broken Bells::The High Road -- This is a collaboration between the Jack Mercer, the front man of The Shins, and producer Danger Mouse. Pretty sick stuff, but then again, I'm bias as fuck when it comes to anything related to The Shins.
Fences::Same Tattoos -- Don't be fooled by his tattooed body and plugs, and expect a raging rock out song. This man is as soft as a baby's bottom, and sings songs equally as mellow and heartbreaking.
Holly Miranda::Ex-Factor -- Three of my favourite things smashed into one. Holly Miranda and Lauryn Hill and the song 'Ex-Factor.' You can't really deny her talent. You can't really deny how good this song is. You can't really deny how I'm right when I say this is fucking amazing.
Royksopp ft. Fever Ray::What Else is There? -- Karin Dreijer Andersson of Fever Ray is the Lady Gaga of Sweden, but perhaps without all the flashy publicity. In fact, she recently accepted an award at the Swedish Awards Show and freaked everyone the fuck out. No joke. Click here to watch it. And as for Royksopp. Two dudes with a band name that means "puff ball" in Norwegian. Doesn't need anymore explanation.
Juliana Everyday::Wake Up -- It's dangerous covering a really good band, especially when you're a 'nobody' (not a bad thing) and posting videos on Youtube, but damn, this is a good cover.
Taken by Trees::My Boys -- This is the Taken by Tree's rendition of Animal Collective's 'My Girls.' I consider this the cute version, but not quite as superior as the original. Then again, AnCo is pretty hard to top.
Holly Miranda & Scott Matthew::Between the Bars -- I feel like if you're going to cover someone like Elliott Smith, you better do it right, or else his fan club/cult will come and hunt you down. That, or you should just pay respectful homage to music's most beloved emo artist. I think this cover pays the right kind of respect to ES, I think he would dig this. Seriously though, this cover gives me chills. Especially Holly's part...2:18-3:15 give me the heebeejeebeeeees...
Neon Indian::Deadbeat Summer -- This makes me wish it was summer of '69. Yeah...Summer of '69...
Bishop Allen::Dirt on Your New Shoes -- Xylophones! I've always wanted to the learn how to play the xylophone properly. Anyways, good tune. Listened to this on the bus ride back, dug it.
Yeasayer::O.N.E. -- Saving the best for last. This song is SPECTACULARRRRR!! Sonically their sound has grown since their first album into a more cohesive, and at times jarring sound. Their sophomore album 'Odd Blood' drops tomorrow (02/09/2010) and I am so fucking excited. So far it's only February and I'm already seeing some amazing things in the music scene! Also, I'm linking the video to their first single off the album. It's called 'Ambling Alps.' The song is definitely worth listening to, and the video is soooo worth watching.
AMBLING ALPS (I can't embed the video, SO CLICK IT!!!)
That's all for now. Hopefully this makes up for the lack of posts recently!
